Especially with the larger "full width" doors, you are suddenly able to bring your garden into your home, or on the other hand extend your kitchen onto your patio.   This is great when you are holding parties, trying to have room for everybody, but its also handy for keeping an eye on the children in the garden while you are in the kitchen.
