SEAI Windows and Doors Grant Ireland
Government Grants for Energy-Efficient Windows & Doors
Homeowners in Ashbourne, Ratoath, Dunshaughlin, Dunboyne, and in fact all parts of Ireland can now upgrade their homes with high-performance windows and external doors with financial support from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
Through the Better Energy Homes programme, grants are available to help homeowners replace old, inefficient windows and doors with modern energy-efficient alternatives that we can supply and fit. These upgrades reduce heat loss, improve comfort, and lower energy bills.
Depending on your property type and the number of doors replaced, the total grant available can reach up to €5,600.
If your home has older single glazing or inefficient double glazing, upgrading your windows and doors could significantly improve your home's energy efficiency while benefiting from government funding.
Who Qualifies for the SEAI Windows and Doors Grant?
To qualify for funding under the Better Energy Homes Scheme, homeowners must meet certain eligibility criteria.
1. Property Age Requirement
Your home must have been:
-
Built and occupied before 2011
The grant targets older homes where energy upgrades will deliver the greatest improvement in energy performance.
2. Electricity Supply (MPRN)
The property must have a valid electricity supply.
Applicants must provide a Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) when applying for the grant.
This number identifies your property’s electricity connection and confirms eligibility.
3. Eligible Applicants
The grant is available to several property owners, including:
-
Owner-occupiers
-
Landlords with rental properties
-
Owner management companies (OMCs)
-
Registered charities
-
Approved housing bodies
-
Owners of holiday homes
This ensures that most residential properties in Ireland can qualify, provided they meet the technical requirements.
Technical Requirements for Windows and Doors
To qualify for the grant, the replacement windows and doors must meet strict energy-efficiency standards, that Tudor Windows can supply and fit.
Window Performance Requirements
New windows installed under the scheme must achieve:
-
U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better
The U-value measures how much heat passes through a window.
Lower values indicate better insulation and improved energy efficiency.
Most modern triple-glazed or high-performance double-glazed windows meet these standards.
Door Performance Requirements
External doors installed under the grant must also be highly insulated and energy efficient.
Typical qualifying doors include:
-
Composite doors
-
Insulated timber doors
-
High-performance uPVC doors
-
Aluminium insulated doors
These doors reduce heat loss and eliminate drafts around entry points.
Insulation Requirements Before Installing Windows & Doors
Before replacing windows or doors, your home must already have sufficient insulation levels.
This requirement ensures homeowners maximise energy savings from new glazing.
The home must have:
-
Adequate attic insulation, and
-
Adequate wall insulation
This can be verified through:
-
A BER Advisory Report, or
-
Evidence of previous SEAI insulation upgrades.
If insulation levels are not sufficient, homeowners may need to complete attic or wall insulation upgrades first before the windows and doors grant can be approved.
BER Requirements After the Upgrade
Once the windows and doors installation is completed, the property must receive a post-works Building Energy Rating (BER) assessment.
This assessment confirms that the upgrade improves the home’s energy efficiency.
The BER report is required before the **Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland releases the grant payment.
Benefits of Replacing Your Windows and Doors
Upgrading your windows and doors provides both financial and comfort benefits.
Lower Energy Bills
Energy-efficient glazing reduces heat loss, lowering heating costs.
Improved Comfort
New windows and doors eliminate cold drafts and maintain consistent indoor temperatures.
Higher BER Rating
Energy upgrades improve your Building Energy Rating, making your home more energy efficient.
Increased Property Value
Homes with better energy efficiency are more attractive to buyers and renters.
Reduced Carbon Emissions
Better insulation helps reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
